Is vidIQ safe? Permissions and privacy explained

A monitor showing audio tracks between lamps and speakers on a wooden desk.

Install only through the vendor's official route, read the live permission screen and connect the account you intend to use. A browser permission and Google account access are different kinds of access. Review both. You can remove an extension and separately revoke account access. This is a source-based risk check, not a security audit or a promise.

Is vidIQ safe to use? The useful answer is to inspect the exact extension, account access and data you are willing to share. A product name or a large user count does not prove that every installation or permission request is safe. This guide describes a check you can perform without handing credentials to anyone else.

what access does vidIQ request?

There are two questions. What can the browser extension see or change on allowed sites? What account data can the connected service access through Google? Read the actual screens shown to your account.

Scopes can differ with features and product changes. So this guide does not assert a fixed list of permissions for every user.

Start at the official vidIQ permissions collection. Then compare that explanation with the current consent screen. If a scope is unclear, pause and ask the vendor what task needs it. A marketing benefit is not a substitute for the access description.

Check the official extension

Start from vidIQ's own site. Follow its link to the browser store. Check the publisher and the access request there. Skip copies sent in a message. Do not install a file from someone who claims it will unlock a paid plan for free.

Do not type a Google password into an extension's imitation sign-in form. Use the genuine Google access flow and check the page address. A visual logo can be copied. The domain and the action being requested are more useful checks than the look of the button.

A short installation record

Keep the official listing address, the account you chose and the date of the permission review in your own private notes. Do not publish the account details. This record helps you distinguish a later permission change from the access you originally accepted.

Is vidIQ safe for your account workflow?

Use the account that owns the channel or has the intended authorized role. Do not share a password among collaborators to avoid setting up proper access. When several people work on a channel, decide who may connect third-party tools and who is responsible for removing access later.

Read the privacy terms for the task you want to use. A chat tool and a public search may use different data. Keep private work out of prompts. This includes sponsor terms and private messages.

Never paste a password or recovery code. Check which account is linked before you share a file.

Check What to read If it is unclear
Browser access Current extension listing and permission panel Do not grant more access just to dismiss a warning
Google authorization Exact scopes and connected account Ask which feature needs the scope
AI prompts What data you are sending Remove sensitive details or use a manual workflow
Team use Roles, seats and responsibility for connections Choose an authorized owner before connecting

Limit or revoke access

Remove the browser extension through your browser's extension manager if you no longer need it. Then check the service's connection in your Google account. These are distinct steps. Removing the local browser code does not by itself show that every server-side account connection was revoked.

Google's third-party connection guidance explains where to review and remove connections. Read the effect of the removal shown there. If you plan to reconnect, check the new consent screen again rather than assuming it is unchanged.

Cancellation is separate from both actions. If you pay for vidIQ, follow the cancellation guide and check billing confirmation. Removing access can stop a feature working while leaving its paid plan active.

What this review can establish

This guide explains the stated access routes. It gives you checks to make on your own account. We cannot see your grants or inspect each version of the code. We did not run a security audit. No review can certify how a vendor will act in the future.

Warning signs include a demand for your password outside the expected provider flow, a copycat listing, a request to turn off protections or an offer that cannot be traced to the official service. Stop at that point. Do not try to make the suspicious copy work by granting more access.

Who should consider alternatives?

If you only need your own channel's performance reports, start with YouTube Studio. You may not need a third-party connection. If a paid research workflow is useful, compare the task and access rules in our software guide before choosing a service.

Check access after a shared computer session

Suppose you used a borrowed laptop to look at a channel. Closing the tab does not show which accounts remain signed in. First check the browser profile. Sign out of the accounts you used.

Do not save a password on a shared device. Then use your own trusted device to review the Google account's linked apps.

Keep these checks distinct from a bill. A safe sign-out does not cancel a plan. A stopped renewal does not prove a borrowed browser is signed out. Write down the state you mean to change and check it directly.

If you see access you do not recognize, use the official Google account route to review it. You do not need to give an unknown sender your password to do that.

If the account belongs to a team, tell the person who manages access which task failed. Share the error text, not a secret code. Keep account recovery inside the provider's own process. This gives the team a useful record without spreading the keys to the account.

Decide what to do when an access request is unclear

Suppose the access screen asks for something you do not understand. Stop before accepting it. Read the description on that screen and look for the provider's help about the feature you want. The fact that a tool is popular does not explain why a given grant is needed. Keep the question tied to the exact feature and account.

If the help page does not answer it, ask official support to explain that scope. You can describe the feature without sending a password or recovery code. Save the reply for your own decision. If the scope still seems wider than the job you need, you can choose a route that does not require that connection. An optional tool is not a condition for reading Studio's own reports.

On a team channel, confirm who may grant access. The person who edits a script may not be the person who controls account connections. A clear role decision can prevent a well-meant install from changing access without the owner's knowledge. This guide cannot see those roles, so it cannot approve the grant for you.

After a grant is removed, check the state in the Google account route. A tool failing to load is only a symptom. It does not by itself prove that every saved browser session or paid plan has ended. Keep a short record of which relationship you actually changed.

FAQ

Does removing vidIQ cancel its subscription?

No. Browser removal, Google access revocation and billing cancellation are separate actions. Use the service that bills you to stop renewal and retain its confirmation. Then remove any browser or account connection you no longer need. Check each result rather than assuming one action completed the others.

Does this page guarantee the software is safe?

No. It explains documented permissions and the checks a user can make. A definitive promise would require knowledge of your exact installation, permissions and future product behavior that this publication does not have. Read the current screens, use official routes and decline access you cannot justify for the task you need.

Decision

Treat vidIQ safety as an access decision with visible checks. Use an official installation route and the least access your chosen workflow needs. If native Studio reports already answer the question, keep that simpler option in view.
